What We Do
Our mission
The Indigenous Grassroots Circle (IGC) is a local non-profit organization that has established Unity in Community in Eastern Ontario. We are a Circle of Métis, First Nations, Inuit and non-indigenous (allies) volunteers who create Indigenous led and themed events as well as the development of community and economic projects that will benefit the entire community. Currently there are no other organizations like IGC in Clarence-Rockland targeting these needs.
“The road we travel is equal in importance to the destination we seek. There are no shortcuts. When it comes to truth and reconciliation we are forced to go the distance.”
— Justice Murray Sinclair, Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada
Our objectives
Establish a location and build a Gathering Center/Cultural Center and Youth programs that bridge Indigenous Students with IGC.
Lead annual Indigenous events such as the Walk of Sorrow on Orange Shirt Day and Summer Solstice Gatherings on Indigenous Peoples Day.
Develop ideas and projects from the community to encourage socio-economic growth in the Indigenous sector of Eastern Ontario.
Establish and develop Able Lodge®.
Support other Indigenous businesses and working with long term partners and sponsors to grow new business opportunities that promote job creation and enhanced living for the IGC membership.
To fill important social and cultural gaps in Eastern Ontario that support Indigenous persons of all ages but also the organizations and businesses that support our future social programs and social safety net.
